Help Us Record the Impact of Universal Credit
Before lockdown Siobhán Harding, Policy Worker at Women's Support Network, had been working on some Consortium research with women on Universal Credit and the impact of the 5 week wait on them and their families but was unable to get it completed as the pandemic hit and scheduled focus groups and interviews had to be cancelled.
We know from previous Consortium research that Universal Credit is a big issue for women and impacts negatively on their ability to provide for themselves and their families. Siobhán is keen to get this piece of research completed and published as soon as possible as there will be a forthcoming Government review on the mitigations package for Northern Ireland and there is a possibility of getting a new mitigation for Universal Credit. We would very much like this research paper to feed into this Review and highlight the impact of Universal Credit and the 5 week wait on women.
But we need feedback from women to do this! So Siobhán has developed an online questionnaire - see the link below. This questionnaire is only for women who have claimed Universal Credit. It is designed to be filled in fairly quickly with as many questions multiple choice as possible. The deadline for receipt of completed questionnaires is Friday 10th July 2020.
Please can you circulate/email the online questionnaire link below to all the women you support along with the following message:
The Women's Regional Consortium is completing a piece of research on Universal Credit and its impact on women and their families. Universal Credit, and particularly the 5 week wait for the first payment, has caused many people hardship and made it difficult for them to provide for themselves and their families.
It is important for Government to hear about the difficulties that you have experienced with Universal Credit. Please complete the following online questionnaire only if you/your family unit have claimed Universal Credit by clicking on the link below. The deadline for receipt of your completed questionnaire is Friday 10th July 2020.
Thank you so much for taking the time to complete the questionnaire.
