The Women’s Resource and Development Agency celebrated our 42nd Annual General Meeting on the 6th of November, bringing together members, staff, and supporters to reflect on achievements, discuss challenges, and set the course for the future.

Highlights from the Chair

Our Management Committee Chair, Robyn Scott opened the meeting by celebrating WRDA’s enduring legacy and the dedication of its staff, especially our Director Anne McVicker. Robyn reflected on a decade of her involvement both as a staff member and Management Committee member, expressing pride in WRDA’s growth and resilience in the face of sector-wide challenges. She extended heartfelt thanks to all who continue to champion women’s rights and promote equality across Northern Ireland.

Advancing Women’s Health: Research and Recommendations

A key feature of the AGM was the presentation by Dr Meghan Hoyt on WRDA’s latest research into women’s health inequalities. Dr Hoyt’s work, guided by feminist principles, highlighted the absence of a dedicated women’s health strategy in Northern Ireland and underscored the urgent need for systemic change. The research identified persistent barriers such as inadequate post-partum care, rural healthcare challenges, racial discrimination, and health anxiety.

Guest Speaker: Órlaithí Flynn MLA

Órlaithí Flynn MLA commended WRDA’s commitment to women’s health and emphasised the importance of implementing research recommendations. Órlaithí highlighted critical gaps in healthcare provision, including the need for specialist services and centralised data, and called for robust strategies to hold government accountable. The speech concluded with a powerful reminder to continue challenging stigma and injustice in women’s health.

Financial Success and Growth

Our Finance and HR Manager, Liz Cutler presented the audited accounts, revealing a record turnover of £1.5 million for 2024/2025—a 34.8% increase from the previous year. This success was attributed to ongoing and new funding from a range of partners, including the PHA, Department of Health, Belfast City Council, and others. The organisation reported a surplus, reflecting prudent management and the commitment of staff and the management committee.

Leadership and Strategic Planning

The AGM saw the election of new directors to the Management Committee, ensuring fresh perspectives and continued leadership. Our Director, Anne McVicker presented the Annual Report, highlighting WRDA’s impact through cancer awareness programmes, advocacy, and capacity-building initiatives. The launch of the new Strategic Plan 2026–2030, led by Clare Cuthbert, reaffirmed WRDA’s commitment to improving outcomes for women through inclusive, outcomes-based planning.

Looking Ahead

The meeting closed with a call for new Management Committee members and an invitation to all to continue supporting WRDA’s mission. The sense of community and shared purpose was palpable, as attendees looked forward to another year of progress and advocacy.
