Giving Disadvantaged Women a Voice in the Sector

The Women’s Regional Consortium consists of seven women’s sector organisations who have come together to provide a voice for women from disadvantaged and rural areas and support efforts to tackle disadvantage and social exclusion. We work in partnership with each other, statutory and governmental organisations, and local women’s organisations, centres and groups.

The Consortium has links with hundreds of organisations across Northern Ireland, including networks, women’s groups and community organisations.

We provide support, signposting and guidance to aid the strategic development and delivery of services for women in disadvantaged and rural areas. We also promote the work and services of local women’s organisations, centres and groups.

We ensure the views, needs and aspirations of women on the ground in disadvantaged and rural areas are considered as part of the policy making process. We also conduct wide-ranging research into areas of relevance to women in disadvantaged and rural areas, covering issues such as welfare reform and childcare.

We represent women on a wide variety of local bodies that influence policy in Northern Ireland. Through sharing the views of women on the ground, we aim to encourage gender-sensitive, rather than gender-neutral discussions.
