Charmain from NIRWN marked #InternationalDayForTheEliminationOfViolenceAgainstWomen by attending a dedicated event in The Mac Belfast hosted by our sisters at Reclaim The Agenda to mark the 16 days of activism to end gender based violence.
This event focused on the risks and challenges for women with a disability, LGBtQIAplus and BME women, policy changes required and support needed.
Ending Violence Against Women and Girls is a key area of NIRWN’s work and we are a partner in the Raise Your Voice project, and we are about to begin activity on a Community Led Review on the needs of rural women and girls in relation to VAWG on behalf of The Executive Office and DAERA alongside our colleagues in Rural Community Network.
There is far still to travel to ensure women are safe in their homes and communities and the #16DaysOfActivism is an opportunity to shine a light on: what is still needed, the excellent work and interventions ongoing and how we can all get involved.
